About Chris

Chris Larcombe was born in 1955, the seventh child of a cobbler. Like herself, her father was a self taught graphite pencil artist, although he was unable to pursue his ambition to be a portrait artist due to family commitments. Now with encouragement from her husband and two adult sons, Chris has been inspired after many years to put pencil to paper and to show her work.

Although graphite pencil is a medium she enjoys, Chris has also experimented with pyrography. This ancient wood burning technique has enabled her to combine her love of birds with her appreciation of the natural beauty of wood.

She has found inspiration for her art from Charles Tunnicliffe's life-long works on bird life, and permission has been granted for her to sketch from his work. Also, Martyn Colbeck's enthusiasm and love of elephants has also inspired her to capture them on paper.
